I've been a huge David Morrell fan since I first read Testament at 12 years old. He's one of few authors that I find captivating enough to keep me from putting down his books. Most books take me a month or more to complete, but I've never had a Morrell book last longer than a week. The Fifth Profession is no exception. Full of mystery and suspense, and enough misdirection to send your head spinning, it keeps you guessing until the very end. Yet, unlike many mystery thrillers, the level of misdirection doesn't confuse the story. Overall, and excellent book from an excellent author.Product details

Second time I've read it, first time was paperback, this time it's a great read.
I am a David Morrell fan and have read many of his books. This one is great with respect to the fact that it is very orignal and unique with many plot twists and turns. There is significant historical reference to make the story line more credible and believable. It had the right mix of action, exotic locations, character developement and suspence. David Morrell is very good with small details that make the book thought provoking, realistic and interesting. Read it!
I was going through my storage unit and found many books that I had forgotten about. This author had 5 of them. I forgot how much I love his stories.
It is a suspenseful page turner full of espionage and adventure. You won't be disappointed when you pick up this book. Just be sure you have the time to complete it as you won't want to put it down.
This was the first Morrell book I ever read and to this day it remains my favorite. I have read it 3 times now over the years and it still locks me in. I probably read four of Morrell's books before I even realized that he was the author of First Blood. I wish they would make a movie out of every book he has written.

I am HUGE fan of David Morrell. re read this as an e book, and was still as great as the first time I read it when it came out. Classic, great storyline.
David Morrell's thrillers can be a lot of fun. At his best, Morrell sweeps you along from one emergency to another, with plenty of surprises on the way.
"The Fifth Profession" starts out true to form. We meet two executive protectors with an unusual shared past and a very intriguing mystery they need to solve. However, about two-thirds through, the book gets bogged down in unnecessary details about Japanese history, while the plot becomes more and more predictable. Like many other readers, I was skimming toward the end, simply wanting to learn the solution to the mystery without caring about the characters anymore.
